School-based Induction

'Professional development yields the best results when it is long-term, school-based, collaborative, focused on students’ learning, and linked to curricula’.

As part of a school's induction programme the following school-based induction activities  provide NQTs with great learning oportunities:

  • Mentor/NQT meetings
  • Observation by NQT of other classes in own school or in another school
  • Demonstration/Modelling lessons  (mentor or another teacher)
  • Observation of teachers teaching in NQT’s own class
  • Co-teaching
  • Observation of NQT by mentor
  • Planning Time
  • Co-planning with another teacher
  • Visiting other educational settings
  • Meetings with SNA, SET, EAL, Resource Teachers
