Mentor Perspective
I was asked by our previous Principal Mr Joe Hartnett to consider training to become a Mentor in our school in 2008. Since then, I have been privileged to work with three wonderful groups of N.Q.Ts who have shown great enthusiasm and willingness to share and learn from each other. Mentoring is a two way process and we are all learning as we go. Each year is different. The support of the principal Ms Martina Kennedy is crucial to the success of the programme in our school and we appreciate the constant interest and encouragement she gives to the NQTs and to me as their mentor. From the beginning, the staff have fully supported the Induction Programme and have gone out of their way to accommodate the NQTs by facilitating observations, sharing ideas and resources and welcoming the new members of staff.
The professional development for the NQTs and the days arranged for the Mentors have been useful and well timed. For my part, it is great to know that help is only a text message or a phone call away should a situation arise that I need help with.
Thank you to Kathryn Corbett and all the N.I.P.T. team for that.
Ms. Sheila Hanratty
