Principal Perspective
As a school Principal I find the National Induction Programme hugely beneficial. It has provided professional development training for me as a principal in best practice for teacher induction and a member of staff, Elizabeth Sheridan, has also received professional training as a Mentor. This year our NQTs have undertaken professional development workshops in our local Education Centre. The Induction Programme is extremely beneficial to NQTs but it has also enabled us to better support teachers in their work at school level. I would advise every school to become involved in the Programme. It is hugely beneficial, not just for NQTs but for the whole staff. As NQTs practice some of the ideas they take from the workshops it has led to great professional conversations between them and more experienced teachers about new classroom practice ideas. Furthermore as teachers model lessons for NQTs it not only helps the NQT but builds the confidence of the experienced teacher also.
