Mentor's Guide

A Guide to Induction and Mentoring in the Primary School is issued to all participating mentors.

The following are some of the aspects dealt with in more detail in the guide:

  • Draft role expectations of NQT, Mentor and Principal
  • Entitlements in terms of time release
  • Visiting mentoring and clustering arrangements
  • Professional development opportunities for mentors for the year ahead (This changes on a yearly basis)
  • Suggested topics for discussion/working with the NQT on a weekly basis for the first two months and monthly thereafter
  • Opportunities for school-based professional development including the following:
    • sample school-based induction activity day and sample yearly induction plan
    • Guidelines for working collaboratively with the NQT in a teaching and learning context
    • Guidelines on developing a policy on induction

The draft guide is updated annually based on feedback from principals and mentors.
