Mentor's Guide
A Guide to Induction and Mentoring in the Primary School is issued to all participating mentors.
The following are some of the aspects dealt with in more detail in the guide:
- Draft role expectations of NQT, Mentor and Principal
- Entitlements in terms of time release
- Visiting mentoring and clustering arrangements
- Professional development opportunities for mentors for the year ahead (This changes on a yearly basis)
- Suggested topics for discussion/working with the NQT on a weekly basis for the first two months and monthly thereafter
- Opportunities for school-based professional development including the following:
- sample school-based induction activity day and sample yearly induction plan
- Guidelines for working collaboratively with the NQT in a teaching and learning context
- Guidelines on developing a policy on induction
The draft guide is updated annually based on feedback from principals and mentors.
